Understanding the Role: Research Science Analyst - Performance Lens
The Performance Lens team at McKinsey manages proprietary data within the Wealth and Asset Management practice. Their mission is to provide fact-based, actionable insights that enhance asset managers' business performance by integrating industry-leading data, analytics, and tools with McKinsey's extensive expertise in asset and wealth management.
As a Research Science Analyst, you will be instrumental in sizing several of the largest asset management industries globally, focusing on key Asia-Pacific and European markets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting Detailed Secondary Research: Gather and triangulate data from industry reports, annual reports, industry associations, regulatory sources, and local data providers. Collaborate with local experts within McKinsey to ensure accurate sizing of the asset management industry in respective markets.
- Developing and Maintaining High-Quality Excel Models: Analyze key global asset management market trends by incorporating publicly available data sources and proprietary information. Contribute insights to refine forecasting processes for focus markets.
- Supporting Consulting Teams Globally: Provide Growth Cube data, charts, and insights to consulting teams. Offer proactive support in responding to queries from external Growth Cube clients.
- Owning Key Global Growth Cube Country Models: Synthesize and incorporate knowledge from external research reports and interviews. Provide deep content expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field with 1+ years of experience, or a master's degree in similar disciplines, preferably with experience in a fast-paced, high-demand business environment.
- Interest in Asset Management: A background or strong interest in asset management, economics, and industry dynamics.
- Analytical Skills: Strong Excel, analytical, and data management skills. Ability to quickly synthesize various data sources to generate clear, comprehensive perspectives.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Capable problem solver with a drive to identify and execute creative solutions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a dynamic, complex, and fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguity; strong sense of ownership and perseverance.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus. Comfortable working across a global team in multiple geographic time zones.
